Dr. Greta Elinson, President
CHAMAH in Moscow

Dear Dr. Elinson,
I want to take this time to thank you personally and the Moscow Jewish Community Center and staff for allowing the Personal Discovery staff from Gallaudet University to work with families with adopted children and families with special needs children on January 7 and 8, 2012. Inna Krouglyanskaya made us feel right at home and was most supportive and helpful each day. We have been working with some of these families and Dr. Lena Morosova for approximately five years. We have seen some of these children reach adulthood and one young deaf child begin to develop first language skills in sign as well as in oral tradition primarily due to the attention and love given to him by his grandmother. Each year we (Lena Morosova and Julia Shevelova) have struggled to find a place where we could work. Your Center was the best we have had the privilege to work in so far. We hope this is just a beginning of a long term relationship.

The Discovery Program is a program I began in 1979 to help people discovery their own abilities, discover the abilities in others, problem solve and work together, learn to take risks together within a safe environment, learn to really value and respect each other as well as all of nature, and learn how groups can become empowered when the group learns to use the ideas and abilities of all of its members. After working with a group of Peace Child participants, which included a delegation from Russia, in 1993, we were invited to go to Russia and share our program with a variety of groups. Thanks to Julia Shevelova, Dr. Lena Morosova and Dr. Lena Dosortseva, we have continued to share our program with different groups on an annual basis. These trips are paid for by each Discovery person and it is totally volunteer. As we share what we have, we learn from those with whom we are working. We go back to the United States with a new and more open perspective on life and hopefully, we have helped to make a difference with those with whom we have worked.

Thank you so much for your warm hospitality and for your support. Thank you too for all of the people to whom you provide meals and programs. How blessed they are to have you in their lives. I hope that we will be able to work together again next year.

Respectfully yours,

Jean S. Berube, Founder of the Personal Discovery Program
